HARRISBURG, PA, April 3, 2003 – Stevens & Lee announces the expansion of its Health Law Department with the addition of Larry B. Selkowitz former Assistant U.S. Attorney, U.S. Department of Justice.
"We are pleased to welcome Larry to our health care legal team," says Charles M. Honart, Co-Chair of the Firm’s Health Care Department. "His vast experience in health care fraud and litigation is a tremendous complement to the practices of our group, which allows us to provide an even more complete range of services to our clients."
Mr. Selkowitz will join an experienced group of 15 lawyers who devote their practices exclusively to the health care industry, and will represent health care and related providers in health care fraud, litigation and compliance matters.
In his capacity as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mr. Selkowitz served as Civil Health Care Fraud Coordinator, where he was responsible for coordination of all civil health care fraud cases in the Middle District of Pennsylvania and for oversight of all joint civil/criminal health care fraud investigations. In addition, he served as head of the Affirmative Civil Enforcement Initiative of the District.
During his tenure with the Department of Justice, Mr. Selkowitz designed and ran the first national health care fraud project in the U.S. and was instrumental in launching the second national project. In large part due to these efforts, he was the recipient of the 1997 Directors Award presented by Attorney General Janet Reno for superior performance in Affirmative Civil Enforcement and the recipient of the 2000 Directors Award for superior performance as an Assistant United States Attorney arising from the false claims act prosecution of a major defense contractor.
Mr. Selkowitz served for several years on the Health Care Fraud Subcommittee of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee. He has lectured to provider and trade groups across the country and has served as an instructor and course planner in health care law for the National Advocacy Center of the Justice Department in Columbia, South Carolina.
He received a J.D. from The Dickinson School of Law (1972) and a B.S. with Distinction from The Pennsylvania State University (1969).
