LANCASTER, PA, November 21, 2004 - James W. Saxton, Chairman of Stevens & Lee’s Health Law Litigation Group and Co-Chairman of the Health Law Group, was a key speaker in Patient Satisfaction and the Bottom Line: Successful Strategies to Raise Revenue and Reduce Liability, an audio conference held on November 20, 2003. The conference was sponsored by HCPro, Inc., Marblehead, MA, and by The Satisfied Patient: A Guide to Preventing Malpractice Claims by Providing Excellent Customer Service, published by HcPro and authored by Mr. Saxton.
Mr. Saxton joined other health care, legal, risk management and administrative professionals to discuss modifications health care providers can make to their organizations’ cultures that will increase patient satisfaction and revenue while decreasing liability. Mr. Saxton detailed how to incorporate customer service fundamentals to enhance care giving, including encouraging patients to become accountable for their care. He also discussed how to generate readable, concise documentation to reduce patient and malpractice claims and how to develop strategies to manage the complaint process. Mr. Saxton and the presenters communicated how to use programs and ideas to decrease patient grievances, evaluate patient complaint systems and collect and evaluate patient complaint information.
Mr. Saxton represents providers, including hospitals, physicians and retirement communities. He advises clients nationwide in connection with understanding and reducing their liability exposure, has developed risk reduction strategies, and has created new forms of documentation and educational programs to support them. Mr. Saxton has also developed customized risk engineering and loss control systems for self-insured organizations and captive insurance groups. He is a frequent presenter on risk management issues and has published numerous articles, handbooks and textbooks on the subject. He also writes the free weekly e-zine, “Liability Reduction Connection,” published and distributed by HCPro.
Mr. Saxton serves as Chairman of the American Health Lawyers Association’s Healthcare Liability and Litigation Practice Group, where he has been recognized for his contributions as a leader in the health care liability and litigation arena by AHLA. He sits on several editorial boards for publications for physicians and hospitals and belongs to numerous local, state and national professional organizations. Mr. Saxton received a J.D. from Duquesne University and a B.A. from Shippensburg State College.
