Jim concentrates his practice on employee
benefits and compensation matters. He advises clients on the structure
and administration of pension, 401(k) and nonqualified deferred
compensation plans. He also assists clients with welfare benefits,
COBRA and HIPAA concerns.
In addition, Jim has negotiated executive
compensation agreements and analyzed issues arising in mergers and
acquisitions, including strategies and methods for reducing tax
liability arising from golden parachute payments. He has extensive
experience in the representation of multiemployer benefit funds,
association health plans and professional employer organizations (PEOs).
He regularly handles matters before the Internal Revenue Service, the
Department of Labor and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
Jim worked for an international law firm
in Washington, D.C. prior to joining Stevens & Lee.
