Government contractors are required under federal law to take affirmative action steps to ensure that they avoid discrimination and provide advancement opportunities for women, minorities, disabled individuals and veterans. Meeting affirmative action requirements can present challenges for any organization. Violating these requirements, even unknowingly, may result in the loss of federal contracting work and cause a contractor to owe back pay if systemic discrimination is found.
