James B. Longacre Presents at National Association of Professional Employer Organization’s Legal & Legislative Conference
READING, PA, June 2, 2010 – James B. Longacre, a Shareholder of Stevens & Lee, presented at the National Association of Professional Employer Organization’s (NAPEO) Legal and Legislative Conference held May 17-18, 2010 in Arlington, Virginia.
Addressing an audience of employment professionals, benefit coordinators and business owners, Mr. Longacre discussed providing compensation and benefits for sole proprietorships, LLCs, partnerships and S-corporations. He discussed the particular restrictions placed on owners of small businesses and how the tax code limits which benefits can be provided on a tax-free basis.
Mr. Longacre concentrates his practice on employee benefits and compensation matters. He advises clients on the structure and administration of pension, 401(k) and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. He also assists clients with welfare benefits, COBRA and HIPAA concerns.
In addition, Mr. Longacre has negotiated executive compensation agreements and analyzed issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, including strategies and methods for reducing tax liability arising from golden parachute payments. He has extensive experience in the representation of multiemployer benefit funds, association health plans and professional employer organizations (PEOs). Mr. Longacre is an active member of NAPEO and is a member of NAPEO’s Legal Advisory Council. He regularly handles matters before the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Labor and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
