SEPTA Board of Directors Re-elects James C. Schwartzman as Vice Chairman

PHILADELPHIA, PA, February 25, 2011 – James C. Schwartzman has been unanimously re-elected as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). A member of the SEPTA board since 1991, he has served as Vice Chairman since 1998. SEPTA is one of the largest transit agencies in the U.S.

Mr. Schwartzman represents and counsels lawyers and judges on ethics-related issues. He has an active federal white collar criminal defense practice and chairs Stevens & Lee’s White Collar Litigation and Corporate Investigations Group. He frequently argues cases before all Pennsylvania Courts and also has extensive trial experience in civil matters.

In addition to serving on the SEPTA board, Mr. Schwartzman serves on the Executive Committee, the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors for Independence Blue Cross. He also serves on the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania’s Interest on Lawyers Trust Account Board. Mr. Schwartzman is a member of the Committee of Seventy. He is a member of numerous other organizations, including the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association and his local, state and national bar associations. He is a past member and Chairman of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board and Continuing Legal Education Board.

He received a J.D., cum laude, from Villanova University School of Law and an A.B. from Washington University.
