Derek represents clients in a range of real estate transactions, land use and land development projects and also advises on hospitality transactions and liquor law. He regularly represents clients in Pennsylvania and Maryland in the purchase and sale of developed and undeveloped real estate, and has extensive experience navigating complex real estate matters, including 1031exchanges and reverse 1031 exchanges.
In his land use practice, Derek assists real estate developers in sophisticated land development, zoning and planning matters, as well as lot add-ons and the formation of subdivisions, condominiums and other planned communities. He frequently appears before hearing boards for variances and special exceptions and before elected bodies for conditional uses and rezonings.
A licensed title agent, Derek provides clients with strategic guidance throughout the lifecycle of their projects. This experience as both an attorney and title agent also gives him unique insight into real estate loan documentation, which he utilizes when representing financial institutions in a wide range of commercial loan transactions.
Hospitality
Clients in the hospitality sector rely on Derek to handle the purchase and sale of hotels and restaurants, as well as the purchase and sale of liquor licenses. He is particularly experienced in helping limited wineries, limited distilleries, breweries and brewpubs obtain Pennsylvania manufacturing licenses.
