Though the railroad tracks are gone and the coal largely exhausted, Scranton is home to a burgeoning services industry, two widely recognized universities and Stevens & Lee’s Scranton office, as well as, of course, the Dunder Mifflin company from television’s “The Office.”
Known as the “Electric City” because of Dickson Locomotive Works’ introduction of electronic lightbulbs in 1880, the city has concert and sports venues that draw crowds from well beyond its borders.
