DOL Provides Guidance on Pandemic Unemployment Assistance

On April 27, 2020, the Department of Labor issued guidance on the temporary federal program Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (“PUA”), which extends benefits to “gig” workers and others who are out of work because of the Coronavirus, and who would otherwise be ineligible for unemployment compensation benefits under existing laws. The guidance summarizes the PUA and includes a Q&A section explaining, among other things, who is eligible for the benefits provided by the PUA, how states should process claims under the PUA, and how much eligible workers can collect.
