James B. Longacre Presents at SNL Knowledge Center Webinar “Compensation in Bank M&A”

READING, PA, January 21, 2015 – James B. Longacre, a Shareholder with Stevens & Lee, was a panelist for “Compensation in Bank M&A,” a webinar presented by SNL Knowledge Center and sponsored by Meyer-Chatfield, on January 20, 2015.

The webinar was designed to help bank leaders better prepare for growth or for an acquisition. Mr. Longacre discussed best practices in employee benefits to ensure that banks retain the employees needed to be successful during and after a merger transaction. He also shared information about employment agreements, and identifying and planning for golden parachute payments and excise taxes.

Mr. Longacre concentrates his practice on employee benefits/ERISA and executive compensation matters. He advises clients on the structure and administration of pension, 401(k) and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. He also assists clients with welfare benefits, COBRA and HIPAA concerns.

In addition, Mr. Longacre has negotiated executive compensation agreements and analyzed issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, including strategies and methods for reducing tax liability arising from golden parachute payments. He has extensive experience in the representation of multiemployer benefit funds, association health plans and professional employer organizations (PEOs). Mr. Longacre is an active member of the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO) and is a member of NAPEO’s Legal Advisory Council. He regularly handles matters before the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Labor and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

Mr. Longacre worked for an international law firm in Washington, D.C. prior to joining Stevens & Lee.

He has a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, and a B.A. from Goshen College.
