Joanne M. Judge and Kirsten McAuliffe Raleigh Present to In-House Counsel at DELVACCA Health, Biotech & Pharma CLE Institute
KING OF PRUSSIA, PA, DECEMBER 3, 2013 – Stevens & Lee Shareholders Joanne M. Judge and Kirsten McAuliffe Raleigh presented at the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s (DELVACCA) Health, Biotech & Pharma CLE Institute on November 14, 2013, in King of Prussia, PA.
In the presentation “Focus on Fraud in Pharma and Medical Devices,” attorneys Judge and Raleigh provided an overview of the new ways in which pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers are coming under scrutiny for fraud and abuse, and reviewed current cases, corporate integrity agreements, executive liability and rebates.
Also joining in the presentation was Jeffrey Miller, Esq., Vice President, Global Synthes CIA Compliance Officer and Group Leader, Health Care Compliance and Privacy for DePuySynthesis, who provided an in-house council perspective on the topic.
Ms. Judge is Co-Chair of Stevens & Lee’s Health Care Department and has over 30 years of health care and financial expertise. She focuses her practice on transactional and regulatory matters for health care entities, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, affiliations and reorganizations, health care contracting, licensure, antitrust planning and compliance-related issues, along with Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues.
Ms. Judge is a Certified Public Accountant and served as the President of Community Hospital of Lancaster for seven years and previously as its Chief Financial Officer. She is a Fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association, served as its chairperson in 1992 and was honored with its national lifetime achievement award in 1999. She was also named one of Pennsylvania’s inaugural “Best 50 Women in Business” in 2000 for her significant contributions to job growth in Pennsylvania. She has served in leadership capacities in many community and professional organizations, including the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council.
Ms. Judge holds a J.D., cum laude, from Villanova University School of Law and a B.S. from St. Joseph’s University.
Ms. Raleigh provides regulatory and compliance advice to health care entities, including advise concerning Medicare and Medicaid enrollment, coverage and reimbursement issues, provider-based restructuring considerations, licensure and certification of providers and health care services, EMTALA compliance and tax-exempt issues.
Ms. Raleigh assists clients in developing and implementing corporate compliance programs and in handling internal regulatory investigations, and advises on the implementation of corrective action plans, including self-reporting overpayments and regulatory violations to appropriate governmental agencies. Her work often arises in connection with mergers, acquisitions, restructuring and other business transactions entered into by entities that own and operate health care providers and suppliers.
Ms. Raleigh holds a J.D., cum laude, from Widener University School of Law and a B.A. from Bucknell University.
