HARRISBURG, PA, October 18, 2011 – Stevens & Lee Shareholder Thomas A. Bowen and Pinnacle Risk Services Principal and Managing Consultant Kenneth M. Maher participated in the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry Tax and Finance Roundtable in Harrisburg, PA, October 13, 2011.
Mr. Bowen provided an update for businesses on Pennsylvania tax compliance. In summarizing many recent changes, he provided practical compliance recommendations, warnings for potential tax exposure and planning tips to minimize tax costs.
Mr. Maher served on a panel discussion about how businesses can enhance the level of protection afforded under their insurance eprogram by addressing common gaps in coverage and amendments that can be made to provide optimal balance sheet protection. Mr. Maher also addressed the need for crisis management planning in connection with operational shutdowns, kidnap-ransom threats and data breaches.
Mr. Bowen concentrates his practice in state and local taxes and economic development incentives. In the tax area, his focus is on controversies, planning and policy. A Certified Public Accountant and a lawyer, Mr. Bowen spent seven years with Ernst & Young, LLP, most recently as the Mid-Atlantic Area Director of state and local income and franchise taxes. He also served as tax counsel to AMP Incorporated (now TE Connectivity), a Fortune 300 company for over 15 years.
Mr. Bowen is Chairman of the Tax Committee of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry and is an active member of the state taxation committee of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the Council on State Taxation Practitioner Connection. He holds a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School, an M.S. in Taxation from DePaul University and a B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin.
Mr. Maher is Principal and Managing Consultant of Pinnacle Risk Services, Inc., a professional services firm specializing in D&O and E&O insurance, risk management and insurance consulting. He has in excess of 30 years of progressive industry experience in risk management consulting, insurance brokerage, corporate risk management and claims management.
Mr. Maher is a recognized expert and has spoken nationally on management and professional liability. He holds an MBA in Insurance and Risk from Temple University and a B.A. in Criminal Justice from C.W. Post College. He is also a Certified Financial Services Security Professional. He is a member of the Financial Managers Society.
