William P. Thornton, Jr. Speaks at Securities Arbitration and Mediation 2018: Evolution CLE Program

READING, PA, January 9, 2019 – Stevens & Lee Shareholder William P. Thornton, Jr. presented at the New York State Bar Association’s CLE Program, “Securities Arbitration and Mediation 2018: Evolution” held in New York City on November 29, 2018.

Mr. Thornton presented and was a panelist for “How Pre-Hearing Motions Can Win a Case.” The session covered arbitration procedures and how to effectively present Motions to Dismiss, Motions to Compel, Motions for a More Definite Statement of Claim and Motions in Limine.  Among other things, Mr. Thornton and others discussed the timing of motions, grounds for motions and related procedural issues.  Also addressed were the strategies associated with pre-hearing motion practice.

Mr. Thornton is a Co-Chair of Stevens & Lee’s Litigation Group. He also chairs the firm’s securities litigation practice and represents broker-dealers, banks, trust companies, RIAs and life insurance companies nationwide concerning claims related to the purchase and sale of securities and life insurance products.  He routinely represents financial services’ firms, public and private companies, and individuals in all manner of SEC, FINRA and state securities commission investigations and enforcement actions. Mr. Thornton practices extensively before FINRA, having arbitrated customer claims, Form U-5 disputes and other intra-industry litigation in multiple jurisdictions.
