Co-Chairs of the Stevens & Lee Appellate Litigation Group, the Hon. Thomas I. Vanaskie and Karl S. Myers, joined for this event by the Hon. Victor P. Stabile of the Pennsylvania Superior Court, will present the seminar “A Crash Course in Appeals: Appellate Basics for the General Practitioner” during the 2025 Civil Litigation and Labor Law Summit hosted by the Lancaster Bar Association on Nov. 12, 2025, at the Lancaster Bar Association Headquarters. The Summit is eligible for 4 CLE credits.

“A Crash Course in Appeals: Appellate Basics for the General Practitioner” will explore the basic structure of Pennsylvania’s state and federal appellate courts, general principles of appellate jurisdiction and process, and tips and tricks for briefing, argument and decision-making by the appellate courts.

The Hon. Victor P. Stabile is a Judge of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. Prior to his election to the Court, he was in private practice for 26 years and served as Deputy Attorney General in the Office of Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 

The Hon. Thomas I. Vanaskie is a former Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. 

Karl Myers is a leading Pennsylvania appellate lawyer with two decades of experience arguing and briefing various high-profile, precedent-setting cases before the appellate courts of Pennsylvania and other jurisdictions. 

The Summit will also feature panels discussing developments in a range of areas, including:

  • DEI executive orders, agency actions and the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Fraud Initiative
