Now Open: Fiscal Year 2024 Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery

The Fiscal Year 2024 Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery (DV Lottery) is open. The Department of State began accepting online registrations for the 2024 DV Lottery on Oct. 5 and will continue to do so until Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 12 p.m. EST. The Department of State announced there would be 55,000 green card numbers available for FY 2024. Results of the FY 2024 DV Lottery are expected to be announced in May 2023.

To be eligible to register for the lottery, registrants must meet two requirements. First, an individual must be a native of a country with historically low rates of immigration to the United States. The countries of eligibility are listed on the Department of State’s DV 2024 Program Instructions sheet, accessible through the Diversity Visa Instructions webpage. If individuals are not eligible through their countries of birth, they may be able to qualify through a spouse who was born in an eligible country or through a parent’s country of birth. Second, applicants must have at least a high school education (or equivalent) or two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training/experience to perform.

Qualified individuals may register online through the official DV Lottery Website, and may register their spouse and/or children within their entry. The application must include the required form and a digital photo of all applicants. Individuals may only submit one entry; multiple registrations will result in all of them being disqualified.
