Theresa M. Zechman Presents at Association of Corporate Counsel Central PA Chapter Continuing Legal Education Program

LANCASTER, PA, September 7, 2017 – Stevens & Lee Shareholder Theresa M. Zechman presented at a continuing legal education program, “Navigating Hazards: How In-House Counsel Can Strategically Deal with Risk,” hosted by the Association of Corporate Counsel Central Pennsylvania Chapter and held in Marietta, PA, on August 24, 2017.

Ms. Zechman presented “Strategies to Mitigate Employment-Related Risks in the Workplace,” which focused on tactics to address risks and reduce liability for employment litigation claims, to an audience of in-house counsel. She covered the risk of violence in the workplace, which can affect any organization, and the possibility that employers may be accountable for workplace violence. Ms. Zechman also provided information about misuse of social media and its potential for reputational or other enterprise risks.

A frequent speaker on employment-related topics, Ms. Zechman concentrates her practice in labor management and employee relations, including counseling and litigation. She represents management in all human resource and employment issues including Title VII, Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Fair Labor Standards Act and other federal, state and local employment discrimination and wage and hour laws. Ms. Zechman also handles cases involving individual and class action wage and hour claims, wrongful discharge and other traditional contractual claims arising from employment, including breach of employment contracts, at all stages of litigation. She represents employers in discrimination matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and various state and local agencies as well as state and federal court.

In addition, Ms. Zechman represents and counsels employers regarding the creation and application of workplace and personnel policies, including leaves of absence, USERRA, EEO, FMLA, FLSA, discrimination, harassment, searches, drug and alcohol, workplace violence, e-mail and electronic communication policies.

She holds a J.D. from Widener University School of Law, an Executive MBA from The Pennsylvania State University, Smeal College of Business and a B.S. from The Pennsylvania State University.
