Linda R. Evers Co-Moderates Energy Bar Association Panel on Radio Frequency and Smart Meters

READING, PA, November 19, 2013 – Linda R. Evers, Chair of Stevens & Lee’s Energy, Communications and Public Utility Group, co-moderated a panel featuring energy industry experts at the Energy Bar Association’s Demand-Side Resources and Smart Grid Committee presentation, “The FCC and State Regulators Discuss Radio Frequency and Smart Meters,” held November 7, 2013, in Washington, D.C.

The speaker panel included Julius Knapp, Chief Engineer, Federal Communications Commission; Wayne Gardner, Commissioner Emeritus, Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission; Chris Irwin, Smart Grid Standards and Interoperability Coordinator, Department of Energy; and Karen Lefkowitz, Vice President, Business Transformation, Pepco Holdings, Inc. It was also co-moderated by Scott Blake Harris, former General Counsel of the Department of Energy.

Ms. Evers represents public utilities and other companies in matters before governmental and regulatory agencies, including the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. Prior to joining Stevens & Lee, she served as long-time in-house counsel for FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corporation, one of the largest utilities in the nation.

A consultant on smart grid issues, Linda has educated utilities nationally and internationally on smart meter privacy and health concerns, as well as overall smart grid cost recovery methods. As the editor of the blog Smart Grid Legal News (www.smartgridlegalnews.com), Linda provides insight on regulatory smart grid cases on the state and federal levels. She was a participating member of the NIST Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP), a national working group which advises regulatory agencies on national smart grid standards, and is an active member of the Department of Energy (DOE) Smart Grid Customer Engagement Working Group.

Ms. Evers is Vice Chair of Demand-Side Resources & Smart Grid Committee of the Energy Bar Association, a member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy, the Minority Bar Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Energy Bar Association, and The Forum of Executive Women, as well as a number of community organizations. Ms. Evers is a former member of Corporate Counsel Women of Color® and the Electric Regulatory Committee of the Energy Association of Pennsylvania. She holds a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law and a B.S. from Northwestern University.
