Theresa M. Zechman Presents on Immigration and Customs Enforcement Protocol in the Agribusiness Industry

LANCASTER, PA, July 13, 2017 – Stevens & Lee Shareholder Theresa M. Zechman presented on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protocol in the agribusiness industry in a seminar jointly held with PennAg Industries Association on July 12, 2017, in Lancaster, PA.

In the presentation, “Knock, Knock. It’s ICE. May We Come In?” Ms. Zechman provided an overview of employer and employee rights and discussed updated I-9 form compliance, the benefits of internal I-9 compliance audits, and the do’s and don’ts during an ICE site visit.

Ms. Zechman handles numerous matters in the field of immigration law, with a particular focus on EB-1 outstanding researcher petitions.

She concentrates on labor management and employee relations, including counseling and litigation, and represents management in all human resource and employment issues including Title VII, Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Fair Labor Standards Act and other federal, state and local employment discrimination and wage and hour laws. Ms. Zechman also handles cases involving individual and class action wage and hour claims, wrongful discharge and other traditional contractual claims arising from employment, including breach of employment contracts, at all stages of litigation. She represents employers in discrimination matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and various state and local agencies as well as state and federal court.

In addition, Ms. Zechman represents and counsels employers regarding the creation and application of workplace and personnel policies, including leaves of absence, USERRA, EEO, FMLA, FLSA, discrimination, harassment, searches, drug and alcohol, workplace violence, e-mail and electronic communication policies. Ms. Zechman also lectures and provides training on employment related topics.

Ms. Zechman represents public and private sector employers in their dealings with organized labor, including organizing campaigns, collective bargaining negotiations, day-to-day administration of collective bargaining agreements, grievances, interest arbitrations and unfair labor practice hearings.

Ms. Zechman has a J.D. from Widener University School of Law, an Executive MBA from The Pennsylvania State University, SMEAL College of Business and a B.S. from The Pennsylvania State University.
