Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s Annual Health Law Institute

The PBI Health Law Institute explored the future of health care legal expertise and celebrated 31 years of excellence at this annual event. Attendees were joined by some of the industry’s brightest minds, including Stevens & Lee’s own, as they dove into the dynamic world of health law, and earned up to 12 CLE credits along the way. This year’s schedule featured a diverse selection of sessions ranging from the Year in Review and state agency updates to AI.

Daniel J. Hennessey, Shareholder at Stevens & Lee, spoke on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for his session that covered a range of tax issues and developments over 2024 and early 2025 that specifically impact charitable providers and other members of the tax-exempt healthcare industry. Topics included IRS exempt organization initiatives, regulatory changes and rulings, trends in Section 501(c)(3) compliance and enforcement, tax exemption and community benefit standards for hospitals, tax-exempt M&A and corporate structure topics and developments in state/local tax exemption matters, including on-going Pennsylvania real estate tax exemption disputes, among other salient issues.

Christina Burke, Shareholder at Stevens & Lee, joined Christyan A. Telech, Associate at Stevens & Lee, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. for a presentation that outlined the framework involved in sales and acquisitions of healthcare providers in Pennsylvania. These transactions contain many interlaced elements, and this session linked an understanding of key stages of a transaction and legal considerations from both the corporate and regulatory counsel perspectives.

This event took place on March 11 and 12, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Hilton Harrisburg.
