Trademark and Copyright Prosecution and Brand Protection

Stevens & Lee assists clients with the preparation, filing and prosecution of trademark applications with the USPTO and other global trademark offices along with the management, renewal and policing of those marks once they are obtained. We also partner with our clients to develop new branding initiatives that expand and diversify their portfolio. As part of this process, our team:

• Provides an initial screening of proposed trademarks by searching the USPTO databases to search for conflicting trademarks
• Prepares and files trademark applications to obtain state, federal and international registrations, as part of a business’s brand development plan
• Designs and implements brand monitoring and trademark policing programs
• Prepares and files all trademark maintenance and renewal affidavits with the USPTO

We regularly prepare and file copyright applications with the U.S. Copyright Office to register and protect copyrightable works. Following registrations, we assist clients in licensing, assignment and other distribution of copyrighted works. Our guidance also extends to compliance issues, including the creation of internal company and employee policies regarding the use of e-mail, internet and company-provided software and hardware.
