Stevens & Lee Real Estate Lawyers Present at ACC Greater Philadelphia’s 16th Annual In-House Counsel Conference

PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 18, 2024 – Stevens & Lee’s Real Estate Department Co-Chairs Christopher K. Costa and Steven D. Buck and Of Counsel Julie Wagner Burkart co-presented “Real Estate’s Greatest Misses – And How to Avoid Them” on Thursday, April 18 at the 16th Annual In-House Counsel Conference hosted by the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Greater Philadelphia Chapter at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

Mr. Costa, Mr. Buck and Ms. Burkart were joined by fellow panelist Aaron Gevers, Senior Counsel at Bristol Myers Squibb, to discuss potential pitfalls, problems and missed opportunities that arise when a company fails to strategically manage its real estate. Stevens & Lee attorneys shared insights from representing a wide range of companies, from Fortune 100 enterprises that own multiple corporate campus to nonprofits and business that lease a single space.

Mr. Costa represents clients in all aspects of commercial real estate law, including land use, transactions, commercial banking, condominium conversions, leasing and landlord-tenant law. He focuses a substantial portion of his practice on pharmaceutical companies, higher education institutions and other advanced technology companies. This work includes obtaining land use approvals and the sale and leasing of research and development facilities and corporate campuses.

Mr. Buck focuses his practice in the areas of real estate and commercial transactions, including the acquisition, sale, leasing and financing of commercial and industrial properties; mergers and acquisitions; and financial services. He represents clients engaged in real estate development, construction and management, as well as corporate clients and financial institutions in their real estate-related activities. He is lead real estate counsel for several national and multi-national corporations.

Ms. Burkart focuses her practice in the areas of real estate, land use, zoning and municipal law. For more than 20 years, she has assisted clients in strategically navigating a range of real estate transaction and development issues to advance their project, investment and business goals. Clients also rely on her to handle a range of disputes arising from various contracts, construction defects, landlord tenant claims and encroachment.
