Jim is Co-Chair of Stevens & Lee’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group. He delivers practical, business-focused counsel to companies navigating complex employee benefits, ERISA and executive compensation matters.

Jim advises clients on designing and managing pension, 401(k), and nonqualified deferred compensation plans that align with both compliance requirements and strategic goals. He serves as employer co-counsel to the Boards of Trustees of multiemployer pension and health benefit plans, guiding them through plan administration, fiduciary responsibilities, benefit disputes and withdrawal liability. He also represents clients in regulatory matters before the IRS, Department of Labor, and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

Jim also partners with business owners and leadership teams to craft innovative compensation, transition and succession strategies that incentivize long-term growth. He negotiates executive compensation arrangements and advises on mergers and acquisitions, including structuring tax-efficient solutions for golden parachute payments and equity-based compensation. Middle market, closely held and employee-owned (ESOP) companies often rely on Jim for his practical, actionable guidance on equity incentives and other key executive compensation issues.

In addition to his to his employee benefits and executive compensation practice, Jim brings real-world insight to agribusiness clients through managing his family farm in Barto, Pennsylvania. This hands-on experience gives him a unique understanding of the challenges facing the agricultural sector.

Prior to joining Stevens & Lee, Jim worked at an international law firm in Washington, D.C.
