Pension and Employee Benefits

Stevens & Lee represents public sector employers in benefit plan analysis, design, implementation and related regulatory and legislative matters and litigation. Our expertise extends to all areas of the law that affect employee benefits, including taxation, fiduciary responsibility, prohibited transactions, labor relations, securities regulation, executive compensation and health care regulation.

Our employee benefits practice for public sector employers covers all available types of benefit arrangements from pension, thrift, multiple and multi-employer plans to medical, life insurance and other welfare benefit arrangements, including cafeteria plans, flexible spending arrangements and retiree medical benefits. We regularly advise cities, boroughs, townships and other municipalities on all aspects of pension plan compliance with both state and federal law, including the IRC and Pennsylvania Acts 30, 44, 51, 111, 205 and 600.

In addition, our employee benefits lawyers provide guidance to the firm’s labor and employment group with respect to the pension and benefit implications in the collective bargaining process.

Executive compensation, employment agreement negotiation, executive termination and all types of non-qualified deferred compensation and equity incentive programs are also an integral part of the practice.
