Union Organizing Drives

Stevens & Lee has significant experience in all aspects of union organizing drives, ranging from pre-petition counseling and training to representation hearings, organizing campaigns and election challenges. We have been very successful in handling certification and decertification election campaigns without incurring unfair labor practice charge liability. We act quickly at the first sign of union activity, frequently helping clients end union organizing campaigns before the union even files a petition for a representation election. We work with our clients’ supervisors to ensure a minimum of disruption to operations and to guard against any basis for unfair labor practice charges and, where appropriate, we have partnered with experienced and qualified labor relations advisors who can speak directly to the employees to maximize value for our clients.

Examples of our work include:

  • In response to orchestrated union efforts in two 2,000-employee bargaining units, including union door-to-door canvassing of employees, we were successful in preventing unions from filing petitions for representation
  • Over 90% success rate in handling hundreds of organizational drives for management
  • Represented companies throughout the eastern United States, including campaigns in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maine, Maryland, Delaware, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina
  • Prevailed in union campaigns against numerous Teamsters locals, as well as locals from the Electrical Workers, United Food and Commercial Workers, Machinists, Steelworkers, Ironworkers, Mine Workers, Auto Workers, Service Employees, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Pennsylvania State Employees Association and Pennsylvania Federation of Teachers
